Kairos Fiber Art was my first website redesign for a real client and my first opportunity to work directly with a local artist. The project gave me valuable experience balancing my own design instincts with a client’s preferences, feedback and goals.

The Project
The project involved redesigning and rebuilding an existing Wix website in WordPress. The goal was to retain the visual identity of the original site while modernizing the design, improving usability and creating a more polished overall user experience.
Design & Development
The new website was built with the Blocksy theme and Elementor Pro. I used a Blocksy starter site as the foundation for the overall structure, then adapted the layout and styling to better reflect the client’s preferred look and feel.
Because the site was designed primarily to showcase artwork, I used large hero images to introduce key pages and masonry-style galleries to present the work in a more visually engaging way. On desktop, the logo is positioned prominently in the centre of the navigation bar, while the mobile layout places it in the top-left corner for a more conventional and accessible navigation experience.
To add depth to the site’s earth-toned colour palette, I incorporated subtle background textures at low opacity. The main page background uses a repeating floral pattern, while information cards feature a canvas texture that complements the handmade quality of the artwork without distracting from it.
Responsive Design
Adapting the design for smaller screens was relatively straightforward. The main challenge was restructuring the contact form for mobile, since its layout was controlled outside of Elementor and required additional CSS to achieve the desired result.

I chose to feature the navigation, the footer, and the style cards.
Navigation
The navigation uses white text on desktop and black text on mobile, with matching logo variations for each layout. On mobile, the navigation also uses the tan background colour found throughout the site, helping it feel consistent with the overall visual design.
Footer
The footer incorporates a background from the header of the original site that the client especially liked, helping preserve a familiar visual element while giving it a new role in the redesigned layout.
Style Cards
The style cards became one of the design elements I was most satisfied with. Each card features an icon that reflects the corresponding fiber art style and links directly to its dedicated page. Reusing the cards throughout the site also created a consistent, familiar navigation element for visitors.
Outcome
Kairos Fiber Art gave me valuable experience in both website redesign and working with a real client, and it remains a project I’m proud of. The finished site is a more polished and modern version of the original while preserving its established visual character across all screen sizes. Working within design preferences that were not entirely my own also helped strengthen my problem-solving skills and taught me how to adapt my approach to better serve a client’s goals.
